Administrative Officer I

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest agencies in the state, responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of all North Carolinians. They are seeking an Administrative Officer I to serve as the point of contact for constituent inquiries, collaborating with staff to address and track inquiries on behalf of NC residents and Medicaid beneficiaries.


Responsibilities

  • Manage, assign/conduct research when necessary for proper assignment, and track the flow of constituent inquiries
  • Analyze constituent requests and flag issues requiring special attention and resolution to better serve the citizens of North Carolina
  • Protect constituents’ Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA
  • Maintain transparent communication with beneficiaries
  • Participate in ad hoc meetings to provide input into processes for development of procedures and policies
  • Participate in staff training and development sessions as workload permits
  • Perform special projects as needed by leadership

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in HR, budgeting, research or administrative management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, using clear verbal and written communication supported by strong grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and professional office terminology
  • Proven skill in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and reviewing administrative or office workflows to ensure efficient and accurate operations
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Outlook, Excel, and Word, to support daily tasks and produce high‑quality work products
  • Effective time‑management skills with the ability to balance multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Prior experience working with North Carolina Medicaid, including familiarity with program processes, documentation standards, and stakeholder expectations
