Staff Accountant Operations
First Bank Chicago is a financial institution located in Northbrook, IL, seeking a Staff Accountant Operations to support their Finance department's operational accounting functions. The role involves processing accounts payable, maintaining vendor records, and performing reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable invoices, including intake, coding, approval routing and payment execution
- Maintain vendor master file and ensure accuracy of vendor records
- Process employee expense reports and corporate credit card transactions
- Perform daily cash and correspondent bank reconciliations
- Monitor clearing and suspense accounts and investigate outstanding items
- Assist with wire and ACH transactions
- Perform routine monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts
- Prepare and post intercompany eliminations and Holdco consolidation entries
- Prepare Holdco journal entries and Holdco financial statements
- Prepare subordinated debt interest accruals and maintain subordinated debt compliance tracking
- Assist with monthly collateral pledging/releasing documentation and filing
- Process monthly tax withholding payment submissions
- Gather and organize documentation for external audit, internal audit and regulatory exam requests
- Prepare assigned schedules for year-end financial statements, Call Report, annual budget and audit/tax/exam requests
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc tasks as directed by Controller/CFO
- Participate in cross-training to build broader understanding of close and reporting functions
- Other duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 0 - 2 years of accounting experience: banking or financial services experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and GAAP standards
- Detail-oriented with effective organizational and time management skills
- Proven ability to follow established procedures with accuracy and consistency
- Strong willingness to learn, adapt and take on additional responsibilities
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines, especially during month-end close
- Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on driving process efficiencies, including leveraging technology and automation
- Microsoft proficiency, especially expertise in Excel and Word
- Strong computer application skills
- Banking or financial services experience
- Power Point, Access and Power BI experience
- Banking and/or Fiserv and Prologue (including Business Analytics) experience
