About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Connected Data

arenaflex is a global leader in intelligent data solutions, delivering cutting‑edge technology that powers everything from smart home devices to large‑scale enterprise analytics. With a relentless focus on innovation, arenaflex empowers millions of customers worldwide to experience seamless, secure, and personalized interactions with their digital environments. As a remote‑first organization, arenaflex embraces flexibility, diversity, and a culture of continuous learning, making it an ideal place for ambitious professionals who want to shape the future of data engineering.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s data‑driven world, the ability to collect, transform, and deliver high‑quality data at scale is a competitive advantage. As a Senior Remote Data Engineer on the arenaflex Data Platform team, you will be at the heart of this transformation. You will design, build, and maintain robust, secure, and scalable data pipelines that enable internal product teams, finance, inventory, marketing, and customer support to make data‑informed decisions quickly and confidently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Ingestion & Pipeline Development: Design and implement end‑to‑end data ingestion solutions using a blend of arenaflex‑hosted AWS services and internal tools, ensuring high throughput and low latency.
  • Requirement Gathering: Partner closely with business stakeholders across verticals such as Membership, Sales, Finance, Product, and Inventory to translate business needs into technical specifications.
  • Pipeline Maintenance & Optimization: Continuously monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance existing pipelines to meet evolving compliance standards, performance SLAs, and cost‑efficiency goals.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Build and evolve data models and schemas that support both operational reporting and advanced analytics, including AI/ML model training data sets.
  • Code Review & Best Practices: Conduct rigorous code audits, enforce ETL best practices, and mentor junior engineers on data quality, security, and governance.
  • Tooling & Automation: Develop reusable libraries, frameworks, and automation scripts that accelerate data onboarding for internal and external partners.
  • Compliance & Security: Implement data protection mechanisms, access controls, and audit trails to safeguard sensitive information in accordance with industry regulations.
  • Innovation & Continuous Learning: Stay ahead of emerging technologies, evaluate new services, and prototype solutions that can be integrated into arenaflex’s data ecosystem.

A Day in the Life

Each day brings a blend of strategic planning and hands‑on technical work. You might start by reviewing stakeholder requests from the Finance team, then dive into building a new ingestion pipeline that streams transaction logs into a Redshift data warehouse. Mid‑day, you could lead a code review session, sharing insights on Python best practices for data cleansing. In the afternoon, you might collaborate with the AI research group to provision a data lake on S3 that feeds training pipelines for next‑generation recommendation engines. Throughout, you’ll be monitoring pipeline health dashboards, troubleshooting anomalies, and documenting architecture decisions for future reference.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in data engineering or data architecture.
  • Proven expertise in designing, building, and maintaining ETL pipelines and data warehouses.
  • Strong command of SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
  • Hands‑on experience with AWS services such as Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR, Kinesis, Firehose, Lambda, and IAM.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala, or Node.js).
  • Experience working with non‑relational data stores, including object storage, key‑value stores, graph databases, or columnar databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Hands‑on experience with data streaming platforms and real‑time analytics (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis Data Streams).
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance standards such as GDPR, CCPA, or HIPAA.
  • Exposure to machine learning pipelines and feature engineering for AI models.
  • Certification in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty).
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical workshops.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex business problems and translate them into scalable data solutions.
  • Communication: Clear articulation of technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork mindset, comfortable partnering with product managers, data scientists, and operations teams.
  • Adaptability: Quick learner who thrives in fast‑changing environments and can pivot priorities as business needs evolve.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to data quality, security, and documentation.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive approach to identifying bottlenecks and implementing robust, long‑term fixes.
