Build the Data Backbone of Global Storytelling at arenaflex

Imagine a workplace where your code quietly powers the magic that millions of families experience every day — from theme park reservations and streaming recommendations to merchandise logistics and sports broadcasting. At arenaflex, we believe that behind every unforgettable moment lies a story, and behind every story lies data. We are inviting talented, detail-oriented, and curious engineers to join our distributed team as a Remote Data Engineer, where you will design, build, and optimize the data pipelines and analytical infrastructure that shape the future of entertainment, hospitality, consumer products, and sports media.

This is more than a typical data entry or back-office position. It is a hands-on engineering opportunity for professionals who love working with large datasets, cloud platforms, and modern data warehousing technologies. Whether you are collaborating with decision scientists, partnering with product teams, or automating workflows that process terabytes of information, your work at arenaflex will directly influence how leaders across the organization make smarter, faster, and more customer-focused business decisions. If you have been searching for a remote role that combines technical depth with meaningful impact, this opportunity is designed for you.

About arenaflex and the Team You Will Join

The DDSI team partners with stakeholders across the entire enterprise to identify opportunities, evaluate trade-offs, and recommend actions that drive measurable business value. Within DDSI, the Data Engineering team is the technical foundation: we build the pipelines, warehouses, and data products that decision scientists and analysts depend on every single day.

As a Remote Data Engineer, you will be embedded with the Media business unit, working on development and sustainment projects that include ad hoc requests, prototypes, and research initiatives. You will partner closely with Decision Science Products, Decision Science, Customer, and Technology colleagues to ensure that data flows seamlessly from source systems to analytical models and visualizations.

Key Responsibilities

As a Remote Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will own the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and database structures that support critical business functions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Data Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with analysts, decision scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data needs, define metrics, and document source-to-target mappings.
  • Source-to-Target Mapping: Design and document transformations that move and reshape data from operational systems into analytics-ready structures.
  • Data Validation Scripting and Review: Build automated and manual checks that ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across pipelines.
  • Data Visualization Support: Prepare and deliver datasets that feed dashboards, reports, and analytical models consumed by business users.
  • ETL/ELT Pipeline Development: Develop, monitor, and continuously improve extraction, transformation, and loading processes using modern tools and best practices.
  • Database Architecture: Design and implement schemas, tables, and views in cloud data warehouse platforms to support a variety of analytical use cases.
  • Dataset Delivery for Models: Package and deliver high-quality datasets as inputs to statistical, econometric, and machine learning models.
  • Process Monitoring and Alerting: Establish and maintain warning strategies that proactively identify pipeline failures, schema drift, or data anomalies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineers, scientists, and product managers across multiple time zones in a fully remote, async-friendly environment.
  • Code Quality and DevOps Practices: Contribute to code reviews, version control workflows, and CI/CD pipelines that ensure reliable, repeatable deployments.

Technologies You Will Work With

Our stack is modern, cloud-native, and designed for scale. While you will have the opportunity to learn and grow within the role, hands-on experience with the following technologies is highly valued:

  • SQL — with primary platforms including Snowflake and PostgreSQL
  • Python — for scripting, data transformation, and automation
  • Docker — for containerized development and deployment
  • GitLab — for source control, code review, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Apache Airflow — for workflow orchestration and scheduling
  • Cloud Platforms — preferably AWS, with services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, and Redshift
  • Big Data Technologies — exposure to Snowflake, Databricks, or similar cloud-based platforms is a strong plus

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of professional experience in ELT/ETL data pipeline development and support.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience using Snowflake or a comparable cloud data warehouse.
  • Experience developing in multi-environment architectures (such as Dev, QA, and Production) and familiarity with DevOps practices for code deployment and promotion.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated job schedulers and orchestration tools.
  • A strong understanding of relational database design, including normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivation and discipline to thrive in a fully remote work environment.

Preferred Qualifications That Will Set You Apart

While not required, the following experiences will help you stand out as a candidate:

  • Hands-on experience working with large datasets and big data technologies, particularly cloud-based platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Professional-level familiarity with cloud architecture and product offerings, ideally within AWS.
  • Experience managing and deploying code using source control platforms such as GitLab or GitHub.
  • Working knowledge of Docker and container-based development workflows.
  • Exposure to media, entertainment, hospitality, or consumer products industries is a plus.
  • Experience supporting decision science, analytics, or data science teams.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Beyond technical knowledge, the ideal candidate will bring a growth mindset and a set of soft skills that enable effective collaboration in a distributed team. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate:

  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to break down complex data problems and design elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: A commitment to data quality and accuracy in every deliverable.
  • Curiosity: A desire to understand not just how something works, but why it works the way it does.
  • Adaptability: Comfort working in an evolving environment where priorities can shift quickly.
  • Collaboration: A team-first attitude and strong written communication skills for remote work.
  • Ownership: A sense of responsibility for the systems you build and the data you deliver.
