[Remote] Data Platform Engineer | Remote

They are seeking a Data Platform Engineer to design, support, and evolve data infrastructure for the U.S. Geological Survey, ensuring reliable ingestion, transformation, and delivery of critical environmental data across cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Help design, support, and evolve the data infrastructure that enables large scale environmental research for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
• Work closely with federal stakeholders and technical teams to translate data orchestration needs into scalable, automated solutions
• Manage PostgreSQL databases, optimize SQL based workflows, and support Python driven automation and CI/CD pipelines to ensure data systems remain stable, efficient, and production ready
• Contribute to improving observability, reliability, and operational performance across data pipelines and supporting infrastructure
• Engineer the platform that keeps high value environmental data moving, accessible, and trusted

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology
• Experience writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to ensure accurate and high-performance data processing
• Proficient in Python for automating data workflows and improving data management efficiency
• Experience with CI/CD practices, including automating database provisioning and using GitLab or GitHub for version control and deployment workflows
• Comfortable using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud-based applications and databases
• AWS and ArcGIS certifications demonstrating expertise in cloud and geospatial technologies
