[Remote] Engineering & Automations Manager
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. HaloMD specializes in Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) through The No Surprises Act and state regulations for out-of-network healthcare providers. As the Automations Manager, you will lead the team responsible for building and operating the automation portfolio that powers IDR operations, ensuring quality and effective delivery of solutions.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end roadmap and delivery of HaloMD's automation portfolio
- Manage competing priorities across a large, active backlog without sacrificing quality or momentum-proactively surfacing risks before they become problems
- Partner with business stakeholders to translate operational pain points into scoped, deliverable automation solutions with clear timelines and success criteria
- Maintain deep knowledge of the business workflows and regulatory context behind each automation in the portfolio
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of automation developers (Level I-III), setting direction and elevating technical standards across the stack
- Conduct meaningful code reviews with substantive feedback-use them as a lever to raise team-wide standards, not just catch bugs
- Step in to write or debug production code when the team needs support or when velocity or quality is at risk
- Build a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and high accountability
- Collaborate with the Architecture department on solution design-bring operational requirements and constraints to architectural discussions and ensure your team executes against agreed designs
- Enforce enterprise standards for APIs, orchestration, event-driven systems, and application integrations across the automation portfolio
- Architect scalable automation platforms using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL
- Establish and drive team adoption of best practices for orchestration frameworks (Temporal.io, Dagster) and event-driven design patterns
- Drive adoption of monitoring and observability standards (Grafana, Loki) across the portfolio and establish runbooks for production incident response
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and establish new best practices for automation design and delivery
- Partner with product, business, and IT leaders to translate strategic goals into enterprise-ready automation solutions-owning requirements definition, delivery accountability, and outcome measurement
- Deliver executive-level presentations and demos, aligning automation capabilities and roadmap with business outcomes
- Communicate proactively: surface risks, decisions, and status to leadership without being asked-treat the portfolio like it is your own business
- Represent the automation team in cross-functional conversations with Architecture, Data, and Product, ensuring your team's work fits within the broader technical strategy
- Leverage AI tools-including Claude-as a daily force multiplier for planning, documentation, requirements analysis, and decision support
Skills
- 7+ years in application development, automation engineering, or enterprise solutions-with 3+ years in leadership role managing technical teams
- Expertise in Python, APIs, SQL, and orchestration tools (Temporal.io, Dagster)
- Working knowledge of front-end development (React/Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS) sufficient to build lightweight self-service portals and user-facing automation triggers; strong back-end proficiency in FastAPI and PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with distributed, event-driven architectures and modern data pipelines
- Hands-on or close familiarity with Playwright and working knowledge of common Python automation patterns: API consumption, email handling, document generation, file I/O, and Unix/Linux scripting
- Familiarity with Grafana, Loki, or similar observability tools
- Exceptional communication and executive presence-equally confident in technical architecture reviews and stakeholder or leadership conversations
- Demonstrated success in high-growth environments where adaptability and rapid execution are essential
- Demonstrated use of AI tools (Claude or equivalent) as a core part of your daily workflow. This is a hard requirement
- High ownership mindset: you operate without being managed, communicate without being asked, and treat the portfolio like it's your own
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Prior experience with UiPath, Blue Prism, or other RPA platforms, particularly in modernization or migration contexts
- Familiarity with Azure infrastructure, SharePoint, Azure Fileshares, or similar enterprise environments
- Experience in healthcare operations, IDR/NSA workflows, or CMS regulatory processes
- Experience designing internal tooling, operational dashboards, or self-service platforms for business teams
- Background in high-growth environments where systems are being built from the ground up under real-world pressure
