[Remote] Supplier Industrialization Engineering Manager - China (preferably based in Shanghai)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Heron Power is a startup company specializing in advanced power electronics for the modern grid. The Supplier Industrialization Engineering Manager will oversee supplier development and quality management in China, ensuring technical success and driving strategic partnerships across the supply chain.
Responsibilities
- Ability to travel extensively (up to 75%+ or as required) to supplier manufacturing sites throughout China to lead supplier qualification, process development, production ramp, and industrialization efforts, including process validation, PPAP, APQP, DFM, root cause analysis, manufacturing readiness, and continuous quality improvement
- Develop Heron's supplier capabilities through technical capability assessments and manufacturing process improvement initiatives
- Lead supplier qualification to ensure sustained high-quality, cost-effective, and timely delivery of critical components and assemblies
- Facilitate clear communication of technical requirements between suppliers and Heron's GSM, design and manufacturing teams
- Drive supplier DFM reviews, assembly stack-up tolerance analysis and ensure assembly processes can meet design requirements
- Contribute to the evaluation of new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction
- Identify and drive cost reduction activities by utilizing process, material optimization, and yield improvements
Skills
- Willingness and ability to travel 75%+ across China as required, with a strong preference for candidates based in Shanghai
- 7+ years of experience in supplier development and/or supplier quality
- BS degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering, or demonstrable equivalent experience and exceptional ability
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes related to mechanical, electrical (including PCB and PCBA), or electro-mechanical components and assemblies
- Skilled in performing detailed drawing reviews, tolerance stack-ups, metrology, and statistical data analysis techniques including SPC, DOE, and sampling plans
- Comprehensive understanding of quality management systems and standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, APQP, and PPAP
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally often with short notice
- Prior experience in manufacturing and/or process engineering focused on power semiconductors, injection molding, stamping, sheet metal fabrication, PCBA processes, or top level assembly lines
- Ability to read engineering drawings, with a good understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Experience with ERP and PLM tools to support BOM control, change management, factory quality, and supplier reporting
- Strong data analysis and visualization skills (Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc.)
