[Remote] IT Manager/Sr. Software Engineer

The IT Manager/Sr. Software Engineer will lead a high-performing team in the design, development, and modernization of custom enterprise applications while providing hands-on technical leadership and architectural guidance.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers and technical professionals responsible for building and supporting enterprise applications
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and architectural guidance across Java/Spring backend services, Angular front-end applications, and SQL-based data stores
- Own application-level design decisions, ensuring systems are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with long-term business needs
- Guide modernization initiatives, including refactoring legacy systems and evolving toward modular or service-oriented architectures
- Partner with product owners, business leaders, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into clear technical direction and delivery plans
- Promote engineering best practices such as code quality, testing, documentation, and technical standards
- Balance feature delivery with technical debt management and platform stability
- Support production issues as needed, fostering accountability, learning, and continuous improvement
- Leverage Azure cloud capabilities to support modern application architectures and scalable deployment models
- Ensure development teams are enabled with reliable build, deployment, and release processes
- Collaborate with platform or DevOps teams to align application needs with cloud and infrastructure capabilities
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a technical leadership or people management role
- Strong hands-on experience with Java/Spring-based enterprise applications, modern front-end frameworks (Angular preferred), and relational databases (SQL Server or equivalent)
- Proven ability to lead development teams, guide architectural decisions, and deliver complex software solutions
- Experience modernizing legacy systems and operating in regulated environments
- Working knowledge of Azure and CI/CD concepts sufficient to guide teams and collaborate effectively
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience within the insurance or financial services industry is strongly preferred
- Angular preferred as a modern front-end framework
