Why This Role Matters

The Customer Development Manager (B2C) for Target is a pivotal position that drives the execution of sales strategies for some of arenaflex’s most iconic brands, including arenaflex, arenaflex, and other high‑growth product lines. This role blends strategic relationship building, data‑driven decision making, and cross‑functional collaboration to expand market share, increase distribution, and deliver measurable business results. If you thrive in a fast‑paced retail environment, love turning insights into action, and enjoy partnering with a world‑class team, this is the opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Relationship Management: Build and nurture high‑impact relationships across Target’s merchandising, category management, and supply chain teams to secure shelf space, promotional opportunities, and distribution gains.
  • Category Growth Execution: Lead the planning and implementation of brand‑specific growth initiatives, including in‑store displays, seasonal promotions, and ACV (All Commodity Volume) enhancements.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with arenaflex’s Customer Strategy, Finance, and Customer Service groups to align on budget, pricing, and operational execution.
  • Go‑to‑Market Insight: Maintain a deep understanding of Target’s go‑to‑market model, category management strategies, and consumer trends to inform proactive sales plans.
  • Budget & Forecast Management: Deliver on the annual budget plan, manage trade investment budgets (TIM and Osprey), and provide accurate sales forecasts and P&L oversight for the account.
  • New Product Launches: Drive sell‑in of new product introductions and ensure full‑line distribution for both existing and emerging SKUs.
  • Retail Initiative Implementation: Work with Target’s retail teams to roll out joint initiatives, monitor compliance with retail standards, and measure the impact on sales velocity.
  • Data‑Driven Reporting: Produce monthly sales analytics, insights, and performance dashboards that highlight opportunities for efficiency and growth.
  • Contract & Trade Management: Oversee contract negotiations, trade fund allocations, and ROI analysis to ensure strategic alignment and mutual profitability.
  • Stakeholder Education: Educate internal and external partners on product benefits, retail objectives, and success metrics through compelling presentations and workshops.
  • Travel & Field Presence: Travel up to 20% of the time to attend key retailer meetings, trade shows, and on‑site audits, with a preference for candidates located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience, with at least 2 years managing large B2C accounts; direct experience with Target is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record in grocery, drug, or mass‑retail channels, demonstrating successful budget and P&L management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with syndicated data sources for pricing and promotional analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic sales plans in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate complex initiatives across multiple internal teams.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder‑management abilities.
  • Analytical mindset with the capacity to interpret sales data, forecast revenue, and drive profitable growth.
  • Self‑starter who can prioritize multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Experience using arenaflex’s CRM platforms (TIM, Osprey) or comparable trade investment management systems.
  • Financial acumen with a focus on ROI, trade fund efficiency, and margin optimization.
  • Creative problem‑solving skills and willingness to explore “uncharted” territory for innovative growth strategies.
  • Ability to travel regionally (up to 20%) and adapt to evolving retail calendars.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to influence cross‑functional teams and drive consensus.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture, anticipate market shifts, and translate insights into actionable plans.
  • Relationship Building: Skilled at cultivating trust with senior retail partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Data Literacy: Comfortable working with large data sets, extracting meaningful insights, and presenting them in a clear, business‑focused manner.
  • Negotiation & Influence: Proven ability to negotiate contracts, secure favorable terms, and influence decision‑makers.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly and new opportunities emerge.
