Social Media Intern in Publishing

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2026-06-13

About the Role

Are you a book lover looking to break into the world of publishing, journalism, or digital marketing? Bookstr is looking for creative, energetic, and book-obsessed individuals to join our Social Media department. This is a hands-on volunteer internship designed specifically for those starting their careers. You won’t just be watching from the sidelines—you’ll be building a professional portfolio, gaining real-world experience in book promotion, and learning the inner workings of a major digital media platform. If you live and breathe "Bookstagram," "BookTok," and the latest publishing trends, we want to hear from you!

Our Mission

Bookstr helps readers discover their next great book—and supports the authors and publishers who bring those stories to life. > We recommend books, showcase authors, and create content that connects readers with books they’ll love, while giving the publishing industry meaningful ways to reach them. We believe every story has the power to inspire, challenge, and connect us, and we’re committed to amplifying a wide range of voices, with a special focus on underrepresented and marginalized communities. Your Responsibilities As a Social Media Intern, you will be an integral part of our content engine. You will:

  • Craft Compelling Copy: Write engaging, on-brand captions for our various social platforms that stop the scroll and spark conversation.
  • Schedule & Strategy: Manage and schedule content to ensure a consistent and impactful brand presence.
  • Community Engagement: Interact with the Bookstr audience, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community of readers.
  • Trend Curating: Use analytics to identify what’s trending in the book world and pitch fresh, viral-ready ideas to our content creation teams.

What We’re Looking For We need proactive self-starters who are passionate about the written word and the people who write them.

  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are a must. You should be able to pivot your tone from professional to "fangirl/boy" with ease.
  • Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of the book community, current publishing trends, and social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X).
  • Autonomy: The ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Passion for Diversity: A commitment to our mission of amplifying underrepresented and marginalized voices in literature.

Why Join Bookstr? This is a volunteer position focused on mentorship and career development. By the end of your time with us, you will have:

  • Published work and social media campaigns to show future employers.
  • Direct experience with industry-standard analytics and scheduling tools.
  • A network of like-minded professionals in the publishing and media sectors.
  • The satisfaction of helping readers find stories that change their lives.
